What models and miniatures can be 3D printed?
Terrain, buildings, vehicles, figures and scale models, especially pieces from about 25 mm up to the size of the print bed.
- Tabletop terrain and buildings
- Board game pieces and inserts
- Architectural and site models
- Topographic and landscape models
- Scale vehicles and machinery
- Display models and dioramas
Which material is best for 3D printed models and miniatures?
PLA, almost always: it gives the sharpest detail, sands and paints well, and comes in the widest range of colours.
Compare PLA, PETG and TPU properties side by side, including heat, UV and flexibility.
How do I get models and miniatures made if I don't have a 3D file?
Most people find models on free sites like Printables or MakerWorld. If you need something custom, like a model of your house or a product, we can design it in CAD from photos, plans or drawings.
What makes 3D printed models and miniatures print well?
Fine detail is limited by the 0.4 mm nozzle, so check that details are big enough before you order.
- Keep raised details at least 0.4–0.6 mm wide.
- Supports leave marks, so pre-supported files print cleaner.
- Very small figures (under ~25 mm) lose detail with FDM.
- Big pieces can be split and glued to fit the bed.
How much do 3D printed models and miniatures cost in NZ?
Most miniatures and small terrain pieces are under 50g, so they're a flat $5 each in PLA. Larger models are priced by material and print time.
What else do people ask about models and miniatures?
Here are the questions we hear most about 3D printed models and miniatures. Anything else, just ask.
Is FDM good enough for miniatures?
For terrain, buildings and larger figures, yes. For very small, highly detailed figures (under about 25 mm), resin printing captures finer detail. We only print FDM.
Can you print models in more than one colour?
Yes, up to four colours in one print, so details are printed in rather than painted. Multi-colour prints are quoted individually.
Do you paint models?
No. Models are supplied as printed. PLA sands and takes primer and paint well if you want to finish them yourself.
